This new BJSM podcast just out! In this episode Karim Khan speaks to Prof Lorimer Moseley about what’s new in the pain science world and what has changed in the last couple of years.
As Kieran O’Sullivan just tweeted about this, he said “always worth hearing lorimer moseley @bodyinmind”. Yup indeed it’s always great to hear about the latest developments in our understanding of pain from one of the leading experts in this field.
Pain, as we are continuing to learn more and more about it, is absolutely complex and as Lorimer mentioned in this podcast, it is truly the embodiment of the biopsychosocial model, because pain is really a product of all aspects of the bio, psychological and social put together in our brains.
He also talks about how central sensitisation is not just about the up-regulation of nociceptive signals at the spinal cord as we used to think, which I was taught as well. But now our understanding of some of the mechanisms are better, and it is a much more complex set of interactions at the spinal cord which Lorimer explains briefly.
Certainly a good listen. As usual BJSM podcasts are not long, about 20 mins, so it doesn’t take too long. Hope you enjoy you it as much as I did.
